Wednesday Night Sitcom Stars Tell Target’s Tale of Giving

The best holiday ads tell a story—we’re suckers for holiday tales, after all. Target recently experimented with an unusual sort of storytelling as one of its holiday outings. Teaming up with ABC, the retailer told an ongoing tale in three parts, each airing in the midst of one of the network’s Wednesday night comedies. The ads brought these comedies into the same universe, with characters from ABC’s “The Middle,” “Back in the Game” and “Modern Family” each coming up with the perfect gift to pay forward to another character from another one of the shows. Viewers who stuck around for the commercial breaks of all three shows were rewarded with a sweet story of holiday giving.

The New York Times has more details on the creation of the spots, which are part of Target’s larger My Kind of Holiday campaign. Want to see them? You can watch right here.

In part one, Sue Heck from “The Middle” gives a gift to the Angles from “Back in the Game.”

In part two, the Angles come up with something for Stella, a french bulldog that regularly steals the show in “Modern Family.”

Finally, in part three, Stella closes the circle with the perfect give for Sue.
