UK Retailers Tackle the Holidays Online and on TV
While our American readers are undoubtedly counting down the minutes until their doors open on Black Friday, the rest of us are well into the thick of the holiday season already. While we have time to take a short breath, let’s enjoy a bit of holiday cheer fresh from the UK.
British retailers have stepped up with some outstanding holiday adverts. First up, let’s take a look at John Lewis’s, which is probably going to bring tears to more than a few eyes—and goodness, that song:
Next up is Morrisons. It takes a decidedly surreal approach to the holiday experience, and manages to capture something more true to life than we normally see. Sure, we’ve never boxed any turkeys, but that line around the block? We know that feeling:
Asda drew the short straw this year with its ad, which sparked a firestorm of controversy online. Is it sexist? Is it accurate? The message, at least, is problematic: “Behind every great Christmas, there’s mum.” But how many great Christmases don’t involve any mums at all?
