GM Reinvents itself

Viral Marketing: Also known as Word of Mouth Advertising. Any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, thus creating the potential for exponential growth in the message’s exposure and influence. Just like viruses, such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands, even to millions.

GM has produced something new and interesting. As the company enters bankruptcy protection, it has started a campaign to reinvent its image. Admitting that the tactics of the past don’t work, GM promises that it is improving itself for the future.

While the ad relies on familiar (maybe tired) imagery of American achievement, it’s refreshing to see a web campaign this honest and straightforward. And maybe it will give people some hope in GM – something the company’s financial situation wouldn’t usually engender.
