BMW and YouTube Round Out the Year

Since we’ll be off celebrating the holidays next week (don’t worry – we’ll be back on January 3rd as always), we wanted to leave you with a little more viewing material this week. Perhaps a touching holiday video would be to your taste.

The story behind this ad is an interesting one, as related by Advertising Age. After BMW chose to go a different direction on an ad pitch, the team decided to go ahead with an earlier idea on spec. The results are outstanding: nearly two minutes of touching scenes of family holiday reunions as captured by real agency staffers on their smartphones. It was so good, in fact, that BMW decided to run with it.

On the flip side, we have an extremely irreverent look back at the big winners of YouTube over the past year. Yes, it’s another Gangnam Style-parody, but the website pulled together some big names to make this happen. Fair warning, if you want to catch all the reference you’ll need pretty intimate knowledge of the big names of web video.

21 million views in two days, though… that certainly speaks for itself.
