Awareness Goes Viral

Viral Marketing: Also known as Word of Mouth Advertising. Any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, thus creating the potential for exponential growth in the message’s exposure and influence. Just like viruses, such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands, even to millions.

Actress Keira Knightley stars in this week’s viral ad, for the charity Women’s Aid. The ad was created to be aired on TV and in theatres, but the controversial violence it portrays (which has caused it to be banned from  UK television stations) has caused it to explode online.

The ad has certainly been successful at raising awareness on the subject of domestic violence. But the violence portrayed may be upsetting to some, so watch with caution.
