Ads that excite audiences online and off

Viral Marketing: Also known as Word of Mouth Advertising. Any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, thus creating the potential for exponential growth in the message’s exposure and influence. Just like viruses, such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands, even to millions.

This week, we take a look at two ads that are grabbing the attention of online viewers. By taking lessons from online ads, these brands have created television spots that capture viewer’s attention, and become viral success stories in turn.

Schweppes brings us an entry in their Schweppervescence campaign. Capitalizing on the popularity of slow-motion, high frames-per-second films that have been YouTube darlings, the ad is lovely and fascinating to watch. As such, it’s picked up over half a million views since March.

Mercedes Benz also has a short but sweet ad advertising its Parktronic feature. Visual tricks and optical illusions have made for some very popular videos in recent months, and this ad uses one to grab attention that’s spreading well beyond local television markets.
