Look back at 25 years online

Viral Marketing: Also known as Word of Mouth Advertising. Any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, thus creating the potential for exponential growth in the message’s exposure and influence. Just like viruses, such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands, even to millions.

This week, Yahoo! celebrates 25 years of online communication. From early BBSes to modern smartphones, the company showcases a nostalgic collection of sites and technology, and packages it within a sentimental narrative. For those of us who’ve been online for a while, it’s a fun look back.

And if you have a few minutes to spare, Johnson Controls has a time waster that shouldn’t be missed. Coconut Run is a quick engineering puzzle that asks you to create a cart that can carry a bunch of coconuts from point A to point B. The game does a great job of promoting the company’s brand, and ties in nicely with green themes. It’s also a lot of fun.
