Watters Creek Shoppers Park for Charity
Watters Creek has announced the next recipient for its long-standing Change for Charity program. For the first quarter of 2013, The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary will benefit from generous shoppers who feed the parking meter in their name.
The donations will aid the museum in maintaining its 289-acre wildlife sanctuary, as well as supporting educational programs that promote conservation and protection of natural habitats.
The money comes from either kind-hearted or inattentive shoppers, as it’s collected from street-side parking meters located throughout the property. Feeding the meters isn’t mandatory, but that hasn’t stopped shoppers from donating over $63,000 to charities through the program to date. And that’s just the portion of the proceeds that go to charity.
“We are proud to continue our good works initiative of making a positive impact in our community by partnering with non-profits and organizations working to make a difference,” said Cornell Holmes, General Manager of Watters Creek. “Funds raised from the meters also continue to support several community events such as free concerts, family and children’s activities, art festivals and seasonal activities held at the center.”
