Redmond Town Center Plays Dead for a Thrill

919zombiesShopping centers are a traditional haunting ground for zombies—they’re just so good at drawing in humans and their tasty brains. Redmond Town Center follows through with that tradition each and every year: at the end of October, the dead rise—and then they dance.

The center takes part in Thrill the World, a global flash mob that takes place simultaneously around the world, in London, Sydney, Tokyo, New York and other cities. Zombies of all ages lay down in the streets and hallways, doing their best impression of inanimate corpses, and then stand and dance as the strains of Michael Jackson’s Thriller begin to fill the air.

To make it possible, Zombie Dance Instructor Teresa Osborn offers Thriller lessons as the Redmond Senior Center. For a small fee (benefiting SecondStory Conservatory) she teaches would-be dancers all the right moves well in advance of the big day.

On the day itself—October 26, this year—shoppers can donate a bit more to the cause to participate. For a bit more over the registration fee, they can take up the 100% Brains package: dancer registration, a photo, entry into the costume contest and makeup done up at a Zombification Station.
