Working At The Mall
Live Mannequins are a lot of fun. They add a spark to any fashion festival or fashion retailer. But one mall is looking past its fashion retailers for the perks of a living window display.
Earlier this month, Touchwood Shopping Centre had an unusual attraction: a children’s book author, writing his newest book from the window of the center’s Borders. Simon Cheshire, author of the bestselling Saxby Smart series of young adult mysteries, worked there on his eighth novel for several days. At the end of it all, he signed copies of his books and met with readers. It was a promotion gig for the release of his seventh novel, but it was also a unique draw for both the retailer and the shopping center.
According to Cheshire, the opportunity held some benefit for his writing process as well: “Inspiration can be found in the unlikeliest places. If any interesting shoppers pass the window, they might well find themselves woven into the story!”
