Winter Comes Early at Festival Place

When summer temperatures rise, the mall is one of the best places to beat the heat. That first blast of air conditioning is often just what wilting shoppers need to perk up and hit the stores. Festival Place is going a step further with Snow Fest. For two days this month, shoppers will visit the shopping center to get a taste of winter, with all the fun and none of the inconvenience.

Last winter, the shopping center and town were plagued by intense snow storms that drove traffic to a halt and kept people indoors. Now locals will have a chance to get out and enjoy the snow without any of the inconvenience that comes with it. Snow will be falling at the shopping center, and visitors will be greeted by a 50ft snowman. Tobogganing will also be on the schedule for those looking for a little winter fun. And there may be a visit from a Winter Olympian in the works, but Festival Place is keeping that surprise quiet for now.

Festival Place got BBC weather forecaster Micheal Fish on board with the plan, and he’s predicting a great weekend: “We are expecting a huge amount of snow to fall between the shopping hours on Saturday and Sunday; this will well and truly put Basingstoke on the weather map for all the right reasons!”
