Willowbrook Trades Tunes for Food
Food banks always need assistance, but the only times we tend to get together as a community for them are around the holidays. That’s what Hunger Awareness Week is all about—recognizing that people in Canada need food, and that solving that problem can be simple. And it doesn’t have to just be a cause for Christmas or Thanksgiving.
So this week, Willowbrook Shopping Centre is participating in Hunger Awareness Week with its Can Corral. It’s rounding up locals to come together for the Langley Food Bank with donations of non-perishable food items, cash and gift cards.
To make the pitch a little more palatable, the center has brought in top local talent to entertain shoppers every day from noon until 2 pm. The performers include local country stars like Ryan Faas, Lisa Nicole Kienas, Robyn & Ryleigh Gillespie, The Johnson Brothers and AJ Woodworth.
It’s all part of Bentall Kennedy’s Fare Fight for Food, an eight month program that pits 17 of the management company’s centers against one another in a competition for who can raise the most for their local food banks. The malls that reigns victorious at the end of October will each be given one of five $10,000 grants, to be donated to the winner’s partner food bank.
