Westfield Launches Searchable Malls

1121westfieldWestfield’s Australian shopping centers already had a leg up in the e-commerce world with indexed collections of products available to buy online, but apparently that wasn’t enough: this week, Westfield launched its next generation: the Searchable Mall.

According to the company, Searchable Mall evolves its digital strategy from an e-commerce site to an online destination. It helps shoppers find what they want in their local Westfield center, and allows them to purchase the items they want however they want—in-store or online.

“The Searchable Mall is the first of many global digital initiatives, enabled by Westfield Labs, which embraces the use of technology to better connect the digital shopper with our physical shopping malls,” said Steven Lowy, Co-CEO, Westfield Group.

The launch of Searchable Mall includes over 97,000 fashion and beauty products from Westfield center retailers, and though it’s down at the time of this writing it’s easy to see how that will benefit shoppers and retailers in the long run. In Westfield’s surveys of users of the previous website, the company found that shoppers who browsed the site were more likely to visit their local center and spend more than those who did not. This extends that relationship even further.

“The creation of Westfield’s Searchable Mall is an important digital innovation in connecting our retailers with our shoppers,” said John Batistich, Westfield Marketing Director. “This is a step toward providing shoppers with a total retail experience, boosting their ability to seamlessly shop their way across any touch-point anytime, anywhere.”
