Visit Australia North at Westfield London

Last week, Westfield London brought Australia to the Northern Hemisphere for five days with its Australialive expo.

It was part of Australialive 2010 UK, a month-long series of events that give British businesses and consumers an opportunity to engage in trade and investment with Australian companies. It sounds a bit dry, but the Westfield events were anything but, as they sold Australia to Westfield shoppers.

The expo showed off the best of Australia – food, fashion, football and more. One of Australia’s top chefs, Bill Granger, demonstrated recipes from his new book, Bill’s Basics. Wine lovers attended an 18-and-over event with host Matthew Jukes, author of Matthew Jukes’ 100 Best Australian Wines for 2010. He launched his book and talked guests through a tasting of his top wine picks. And Leona Edmiston, a top Australian designer famous among her celebrity clients, unveiled her newest collection.

And for shoppers looking for a chance to win big, there were two great opportunity with the Tour Down Under crew. Shoppers could take part in simulated cycling races in the Westfield atrium, with the eight fastest men and women returning for finals. The fastest man and woman won a road bike, and all returning finalists won cycling jerseys and hampers filled with fresh South Australian produce. At the same time, a prize draw offered up a chance to win a trip for two to South Australia for Adelaide’s Tour Down Under in January.
