Two Rivers Hosts the 2012 Boccia Team

Earlier this month, Two Rivers Shopping Centre played host to a very important team: the players of Boccia 2012 stopped by the center to raise awareness of the sport in preparation for their appearance at the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Boccia is a sport designed for atheletes with disabities that have a major impact on motor skills. It’s a target ball sport similar to petanque and bowls. Many shoppers might not have known about the sport before the 11th, but after the team spent 5 hours playing the sport inside the center, there was certainly much more awareness to be had. They also spent some of that time talking to shoppers and showing them how to get involved as volunteers.

Speaking before the event, Boccia 2012 organiser Rita White commented: “We are delighted to be attending Two Rivers Shopping Centre. Our aim is to raise awareness of this fantastic sport which is available for people of any age and physical or learning disability. The team have a lot of hard work ahead of them for the 2012 Paralympics and it would be fantastic to get more people supporting team in preparation for this momentous event.”
