A Trail of Broken Hearts

The Museum of Broken Hearts is on the road, and it’s visiting malls around the world.

For Valentine’s Day, the Museum was at Istinye Park mall in Istanbul. It came with the leftover pieces of relationships past.

An article in the New York Times describes one of the displays:

“Among the many curious objects on display at a new exhibition in an upscale shopping mall here is an old Nokia cellphone with a rugged plastic skin, accompanied by a tag from an anonymous donor that reads: ‘It lasted 300 days too long. He gave me his mobile phone so I couldn’t call him anymore.’ “

The Museum collects pieces of emotional history – items from ended relationships that can’t be given back, or thrown away. Each item has a story. The anonymous donors are from around the world, and they show us just how universal a broken heart is. Here’s hoping the exhibit makes its way to a mall nearby. It sounds beautiful.
