thecentre:mk’s Big Draw
As October wraps up, so does a great national campaign in the UK: The Big Draw. It’s the world’s biggest celebration of drawing, and it encourages people young and old to take joy in drawing.
The event began on the last day of September with Making the First Mark, with activities like “Where Will You Draw the Line” which invited participants to find lines in the environment and draw them everywhere: the walls, the floor, and more traditional locales. The opening also launched The Drawing Machine’s City of Trees project, which had people draw on postcards and contribute them to a collective work.
That work, a mighty tree, featured in yesterday’s closing of the Big Draw MK at thecentre:mk. In its spacious Middleton Hall, the tree featured in the midst of a great many fun drawing events. Shoppers could make their own drawing machines using scrap materials, participate in the never-ending story of Milton Keynes on a 20 meter scroll of paper, and get outlined, crime-scene style, for a particularly Halloween-ish denouement.
