The Potteries Crowdsources The Hive

102potteriesBack in May, intu Potteries reached out to its shoppers for a little help. The center was planning a new leisure development, to be opened in 2015, and it needed a name. Rather than head to the drawing board, the center asked shoppers to come up with something that suited.

At the time, center marketing manager Sandrine Rutter said, “We know that the people of Stoke-on-Trent are very passionate about their city and we would like to harness some of it by asking them to name our new leisure development. What better way to have your voice heard and be part of an exciting expansion that will be the heart of the city centre for many generations to come”.

Shoppers came up with names that they submitted online and in-center, which were then gathered and tallied. The top ten names were examined by a legal team and checked for availability, at which point they were put to a public vote.

After this careful process, one name emerged as a winner: The Hive at intu Potteries. Construction will commence soon, and when it’s complete the development will include five new restaurants and a Cineworld.

According to Sandrine, “We received over a thousand votes, with The Hive receiving nearly half of the votes. The Venue, The Place and Kaleidoscope were very close together but The Hive shone above as being the people’s choice by far.”

And so The Hive it is. The shoppers that suggested the winning name will be entered into a draw, with the winner invited to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. The winner also gets a £200 center gift card.
