The Palms Won’t Let Closure Keep Away Its Community
Here’s some good news: The Palms Shopping Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand is on the road to reopening. The center was damaged in February’s earthquake, and has been closed since. But it’s recently announced its road map to reopening, and it’s keeping the community involved every step of the way.
The first phase of reopening will be reached at the end of June, and by the end of August, most or all of the center’s retailers will be open again. A closure of so many months could result in a center losing a lot of its loyal customers, but The Palms plans to keep its shoppers close with a series of community events. These started last week with the center’s Market Day.
Market Day was largely a celebration of community. Rebuilding was discussed, but not just for the center – for all of Christchurch. Retailers from the center were also on hand with stalls to raise donations for community causes.
