The Palms Proves There is Such a Thing as a Free Lunch
The Palms Shopping Centre asked a simple question on its Facebook page: it wanted to know what it could do to increase the “happiness factor” in the local community. One local mother had the answer: to cheer up adults, cheer up their kids. Or maybe just take a little off their parental plates—either way, the suggestion was a sponsored lunch at a local school.
“We received many ideas from the community following this post, but the lunch idea really jumped out at us,” says The Palms Shopping Centre Manager Simon Carter. “We really value our local schools, for many of whom it has been a difficult year, and wanted to acknowledge this by giving staff and students a treat.”
Teachers and parents nominated their schools to receive the free lunch, with over 1000 nominations sent to the center. Burwood School rallied staff, students and friends for support, and managed to squeak out in front. Together, the students and staff of the school enjoyed a free lunch on The Palms’ dime.
It’s just one of the ways the center plans to support local schools this year, and just one of many ways it plans to work on that happiness factor.
