The Palms Plans an Icy Holiday

926palmsSpring is just warming up, but The Palms is giving shoppers the chance to cool off for their school holidays. From September 28 to October 13, its carpark will be converted to the More FM Frozen Fun Zone, one of the biggest outdoor ice rinks Christchurch has seen. At 450 square meters, it fills the center’s first covered carpark—including plenty of room for spectators, of course.

It’s a good draw for some big league skaters, too. Two members of the World Series-winning Black Sox, Daniel Milne and Tyron Bartorillo, are attending the rink’s opening festivities. The Aardwolfs Ice Hockey team will demonstrate their skills a bit later, and of course there will be plenty of opportunities for public skating. The rink is open from 10-10 every day through the holiday period.

Shoppers and skaters will also have the chance to win great prizes in the process, with giveaways for gift baskets and vouchers from center retailers. Competitions will include craziest hair and most colorful hair contests, speed-skating Saturday and funky fashion Fridays.

Simon Carter, Centre Manager at The Palms, is looking forward to seeing local kids and adults alike enjoy an activity never before seen at The Palms.

“We know entertaining the kids during the school holidays can be a challenge, so we decided to offer something a little different that the whole family can enjoy together. There is a lot going on at the centre these school holidays and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of ice skating talent that I know is alive and well in Christchurch.”
