The Octagon Catches a Case of Olympic Pride

For the hosts, the Olympics are all about welcoming the world—or at least that’s what we attempt. It would be disingenuous to claim that there’s no element of competition, specifically the competition to show off the most national pride. The Octagon Shopping Centre is doing its part this week with a small display of big-time patriotism.

As part of the celebrations leading up to the Jubilee and the Games, the center has teamed up with Burton Town Centre Management to erect nine flag poles, to be officially unveiled on Friday 1st June at 2pm. The poles will sport Union Jacks to demonstrate the center’s patriotism while celebrating the Games, but will remain for years to come.

“I’m really excited about this new addition to the car park and, as the whole country has been building up to this summer for most of the year, it seems only right to utilise the poles to enable us to join in the celebrations for both events with a show of patriotism,” said Peter Hardingham, centre manager at The Octagon. “I hope that the decorations will bring an extra feeling of festivity to the town and that all of our shoppers enjoy our efforts.”
