The Montréal Fashion and Design Festival Turns 10

The Montréal Fashion and Design Festival (Festival Mode & Design) celebrates its 10th year next month, and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic celebration. What was once a small showcase of Quebec’s fashion design talent has grown into an international affair. And this year, the festival takes place in August for the first time, allowing shoppers to find the fashions on store racks almost immediately after seeing them shown off on the runway.

The festival showcases graphic design, architecture, urban planning, industrial design and music along with the fashion, but local retailers will likely benefit most from fashion-hungry visitors. Last year the festival launched Rallye Shopping, a one-day retail fashion bonanza in the midst of the festival. That tradition continues this year. If you’ve heard of Fashion’s Night Out, you probably have some idea how Rallye Shopping goes – thousands of fashion shoppers descending on the downtown shops, who offer music and entertainment, drinks, treats and discounts. The festival offers pre-registration for the event that includes gift bags and goodies. This year it takes place on August 5, from 5-9 PM.

Canadian fashion magazine LOU LOU has teamed up with the festival to offer a shopping promotion with a $15,000 grand prize. For each $50 spent at participating retailers during Rallye Shopping, shoppers receive a stamp in their shopping passport. Once they complete their passports, shoppers can drop them off in specially marked mailboxes around the downtown core to enter to win the big prize.
