The Centre Marathons for Cancer Research

1017cancerThis week, Canada’s The Centre is teaming up with C95 FM to raise money for breast cancer research. The C95 Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research has raised over $3 million in the 14 years since its inception, with over $300,000 coming in last year alone. This year, it promises to be better than ever.

The radio team will be broadcasting from the center all day, encouraging shoppers and listeners to donate to the cause. All money raised goes to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, keeping the cause incredibly local.

To keep the money rolling in, the team has come up with a few ways to encourage donations. Shoppers who want to show off their support can purchase pink shoe laces for $3/pair. Or they can go extreme—anyone who raises a minimum of $1000 for the cause can have their head shaved live at the Radio Marathon, where they can also present their funds live on-air. The team is live-streaming video online, so everyone gets to watch.

Many companies have arranged deals to be offered around the event, and others are participating in power hours: hours during which their business will match all community donations made in exchange for impressive promotional opportunities.

And of course it all goes to an outstanding cause at the end of the day.
