The Bridges Hosts Urban Athletes
Last weekend, The Bridges helped discover the next generation of sporting talent in Sunderland as part of the Sunderland City Predators’ Urban Athletics program.
The University of Sunderland is helping to lead the charge, looking for the locals with the fastest reaction, the highest jump, the fastest sprint and the best balance and agility.
According to the Sunderland Echo, more than 400 people took part over the course of the weekend. The challenges included things like jumping from a standing start, taking five-meter sprints and balancing on a ball-mounted ball hooked up to a console screen.
The cool thing about the challenge is that the Predators have been keeping track of each and every participant, ranking them on a leaderboard. The top 20 are displayed online for all to see, so there’s plenty of motivation to show up and perform. It’s a great way to find the big talent awaiting discovery by the Predators, but it’s also a fantastic chance to encourage people to be proud of their athletic performance.
