The Big Draw Inspires Swindon Shoppers

This month, people around the world got together to celebrate a common interest (or to discover a new one): a love of drawing.

The Big Draw is a month-long drawing event originally launched in the UK, and over the last ten years its grown to encompass world-wide participation. It’s part of the Campaign for Drawing, which hopes to raise the profile of drawing as a tool for thought, creativity, social and cultural engagement.

It’s also the perfect campaign for a shopping center, and many have come aboard. The events have appeal for all ages, require little in the way of supplies or cost, and are part of a great cause. Last weekend, Swindon Designer Outlets held its Big Draw event, with workshops from local artists. Shoppers had the chance to sit down and draw and sketch in a variety of mediums, and the shopping center arranged household objects and mannequins dressed in vintage clothing as models or inspiration.

Friars Square Shopping Centre in Aylesbury has been linking in with a local junior school for a number of years to celebrate The Big Draw event. It is an opportunity for the children to interact with our shoppers to get them involved in drawing “a square” which eventually ends up as part of a well known picture. Always enjoyed by the children and well received by the public.
