Templars Square Shoppers Create Community Art

1218crowleySome things are worth waiting for—like the culmination of four months work at drawing together your community in the name of art. Templars Square Shopping Centre is reaping the rewards of that investment after completing the ‘Faces and Places of Cowley’ art project.

The center teamed up with an adjacent community facility, the Ark-T Centre, to bring together a lasting display of vibrant and colorful art. Each of 114 pieces of artwork has been created by a member of the local community, representing a moment, memory, face or place special to the artist. Each 4′ x 4′ work has become part of a tapestry that reflects the entire community, on display above the shops in the center.

Templars Square hosted the first and last sessions of this project, open for free to the public. Between the July 20th and October 5th events, eleven further sessions were held at the Ark-T Centre. At the end, the public and press gathered at the mall to celebrate the unveiling of this ribbon of civic pride.
