Strand Arcade Exhibits the Future of Fashion
Fashion is a tricky subject to plan for. Quite an industry exists around predicting and declaring the next big style, trend, or fashion. The Strand Arcade is getting the scoop a little ahead of time, though, with its Future Directions exhibition.
Students of the Fashion Design Studio at Ultimo College at Sydney Institute TAFE have their work on display at the center as part of the exhibition this month. Since the true future of fashion rests in the hands of new designers, this gives shoppers a sneak peek at some of what may be coming.
The program’s head teacher, Nicholas Huxley, sees the benefit for both the center and the students. “It is a wonderful opportunity and a thrill for the students to present their work in the same building that houses some of our leading Australian designers,” he said. “A number of these highly successful designers including Akira Isogawa and Alex Perry are ex-students of the design school, which is a huge inspiration to the students.”
This year’s exhibition features participants from Rosemount Australia Fashion Week 2010 and final year student garments from the prestigious ‘CBN Media / Vodka O Award.’
