St. Johns Fancies a Kiss

St. Johns Shopping Centre puckered up for a good cause last weekend. Shoppers showed up in droves to make a go at winning the world record for number of lipstick imprints in one place in 12 hours, and do a bit of good in the process.

Marketing manager Carol Cooper explained: “We thought that setting a record for the most kisses in one place was brilliant and what better time than Valentine’s Day to give it a try.“

The attempt was organized by the British Red Cross. Anyone wanting to participate could donate £1 or more to the organization. They were given free lipstick, and the smooches were captured on the Big Red Kiss displays at the center.

To keep shoppers in the mood, Liverpool’s Radio City breakfast DJ Claire Simonsen and ground crew were on site. They chose the best lip imprint of the bunch to win a romantic weekend for two in Paris.

In the end, the record was just out of reach. But £2,000 was raised for the British Red Cross and the organization trained 200 people in how to give CPR, so the Kiss of Life has a few new fans.

One shopping center did manage a Valentine’s Day kissing record this week: a couple at a shopping center in Pattaya, Thailand locked lips for a record-destroying 46 hours. Ouch.
