SM Mall of Asia Lights Up the Night Sky

For the last three years the SM Mall of Asia has held an International Pyromusical Competition, where teams from around the world compete to create and perform the best fireworks and music displays. It sounds as though it’s always a gorgeous time, with two teams competing each weekend for the duration.

To get shoppers involved in more than just viewing, the center has created two competitions. The first asks only that shoppers text to vote for their favorite display and to register for the competition. The winner could get a trip for two to the winning country (Philippines isn’t up for voting), VIP tickets, a new camera and more, so votes should come in rather quickly, we’d imagine.

The second competition requires a little more work. The Pyromusical Photo Competition asks viewers to take a more active role, shooting the best photographs of the evening. But not of the fireworks themselves – the theme is “Capturing the Spark,” and the winning photo will be of a special moment at the displays. The center describes amazed children, lovebirds and happy crowds as the ideal shots, with or without the fireworks in the background.

The top three photographers will get hundreds of dollars in gift cards and Canon DSLR cameras, and the top thirty photographs will be displayed in a gallery in the center. To avoid tricky photo manipulation, the center will disqualify any entry that has been adjusted beyond cropping, rotation, and sharpening, or adjustments to white balance, brightness, contrast and saturation. The center also reserves the right to use the shots in its marketing materials.
