Sherway Gardens Gives Christmas Shopping a Touch of Home
Later this month, shoppers at Sherway Gardens will have the chance to find the perfect handcrafted touch to add to their Christmas gift giving. And while they’re shopping, they’ll be supporting some of over 25 local community groups.
From October 21 – 23, the shopping center will host its annual Hometown Fair. The fair brings together local church and seniors groups, community centres, and other non-profit organizations in the center’s community. Members of the groups create hundreds of handmade items including woodwork, baby blankets, quilts, ornaments, toys, preserves and baked goods. The groups keep 100% of the proceeds from their creation, and get exposure at the same time. Many of the groups that will be attending have been participating for a decade or longer, and have always found the community generous.
Though Sherway Gardens is continuing a tradition its held for many years, it seems the rest of North America is catching up. Handcrafted gifts are entering a renaissance with websites like Etsy growing in popularity by leaps and bounds, and venues clamoring to host recurring craft and handcrafted goods fairs. If this isn’t a tradition your shopping center has considered – maybe it’s time?
