Sherway Gardens Celebrates 15 Years of Student Art

The student art show is a time-honored tradition at many shopping centers, but that doesn’t mean it has to grow stale. Sherway Gardens just wrapped up its 15th annual Smart Start Student Art Show, and it proved that the tradition has plenty of room to grow.

Arts Etobicoke presented the show, which was sponsored by Sherway Gardens. It featured works of art from students from various high schools across Metro Toronto. But you know the benefits of encouraging student artists with a non-juried show.

Here’s the interesting part: with the addition of new sponsors, the show’s organizers had a little more flexibility to celebrate this 15-year milestone. So they worked to bring the students and the public even greater opportunities to expand their artistic worlds.

The Smart Start Learning Centre gave students, teachers and the public the chance to observe and engage with art in new and different ways while learning about the creative process through interactive activities. The center also held an evening conference for students and teachers, the Smart Start Symposium, which offered critiques and workshops led by professional artists, followed by a private reception.

Art scholarships were also offered to participating schools, and participants received a packages including a complimentary Arts Etobicoke membership, an exhibition catalog and a free art gift.
