Sears Eases the College Transition

Back to School can be a tough time for new college students. The transition from living with mom and dad to having a roommate in a dorm is a big one, and while there is often lots of support on campus, the lead up can be a scary time with nothing but anticipation.

Sears and Kmart are looking to make that anticipation just a little bit easier for college students with a new microsite, Campus 2010, and a matching Facebook app, Campus Connector.

The Campus 2010 site includes videos on designing your dorm room, shopping checklists, and plenty of tips to drive students to shop. The Facebook app lets them design their ideal dorm rooms with items from Sears and Kmart, and share those rooms on their walls, by email, or through several other social media sites. Parents, family and friends can purchase items off this virtual wishlist directly through Facebook.

The Campus Connection page also lets students locate their future dorm-mates, and provides students with a forum to chat with their future classmates and friends online about campus-related topics, like class schedules, dorm essentials and what to expect.
Discussions are led and moderated by college students currently enrolled at Indiana University, for a true-to-life account of experiences and advice.
