Santana Row Brings TED to San Jose
Santana Row has just done something very cool: it played host to a TEDx event.
If that’s all greek to you, here’s the scoop. TED is a nonprofit devoted to the concept of Ideas Worth Spreading. It runs a series of global conferences centering around the worlds of Technology, Entertainment and Design. Over the course of the year, the speakers from TED conferences are featured in web videos that have picked up a huge following.
TEDx is a way of denoting an independently organized TED event. For Santana Row, this one is TEDxSanJoseCA. The gathering is part of a world-wide initiative to bring TEDGlobal 2011 to people everywhere – in this case, the hundreds of people who registered for the free event got to watch speakers from the global event in a live stream.
The shoppers who showed up were treated to the event on an outdoor big screen. The speakers spoke on fascinating subjects, including lie detection, bad science, love and crime.
