Santa Monica Place Welcomes Barbie Home
Santa Monica Place has welcomed a very special guest to make herself at home inside its walls: Barbie.
Thanks to a partnership between Otis College of Art and Design and Mattel, the center is holding Barbie’s Housewarming Party. A full exhibition was held last weekend, and the display continues through the 29th.
Otis students put together work in many disciplines celebrating the plastic fashionista. The show features work by students including fashionable swimsuits and cover-ups, chic interior accents and furnishings, original paintings, a Barbie-sized fitness center and short films about Barbie’s influence and impact on art and design.
“Otis students have collaborated with some of the most well-known designers and artists,” said Rosemary Brantley, Chair of Otis’ Fashion Design program, “Barbie was the perfect mentor. She’s sophisticated, a world-traveler, and the ultimate fashionista.”
