But Forest Lake Village has tweaked the formula just slightly to come up with something better. Rather than offering a generic gift, or a gendered one (handbags are a popular choice at many malls), the UK shopping center is offering shoppers a free lunch. Spend $100 in a day for a $20 lunch, $50 in a day for a $10 lunch, and $20 in one transaction for a free coffee.
Not every shopper is looking for a new handbag, but you can bet most people would be happy to tack a free lunch or coffee onto a trip to the mall. And it might just convince them to stick around a bit longer.
