Park Royal Meets Some Hockey Heroes

Being a Canadian center, Park Royal doesn’t exactly do the beach thing for Spring Break. Instead, it’s all about the ice rink. Normally the center holds a Spring Break Skate Festival with all manner of fun activities for kids and teens out of school, but this year it’s going one further with the first every Hollyburn Heroes Hockey Shootout Contest.

The center has partnered with Hollyburn Family Services to organize the event, which sounds like a ton of fun for hockey fans. Just a few short weeks before the start of the NHL playoffs, participants will be able to show off their stuff in front of a crowd and shoot to win great prizes. To participate, players just need to register, and collect as many pledges as they can in support of the non-profit.

Once on the ice, shooters will take a few practice shots, stand safely on a carpeted patch and shoot a bucket of pucks to the empty net. There are plans for prizes for the most funds raised and the most goals scored, but the top Hockey Hero Shooter will walk away with the big one: the soon-to-be coveted Hockey Heroes Shootout Cup.

And while they won’t need to shoot against them in the rink, two Vancouver Canucks will be on hand to meet with fans and cheer on the shooters. That just makes raising funds for disadvantaged youth seem all the sweeter, no?
