Park Royal Celebrates Its Heritage

Last week was Heritage Week in Canada, and this year the week holds special significance for one municipality: West Vancouver is celebrating its centennial. What better way to mark such an impressive anniversary than a city-wide heritage festival?

There were plenty of events over the course of the week, including a snowshoeing trip up the mountain. Park Royal Shopping Centre hosted one of the central events, the 2012 Heritage Fayre.

The Fayre had something for everyone. Free samples of the traditional Queen Victoria blend from Murchies Tea & Coffee, the John Deere Crawler that once took skiers up the mountain in winter, lessons on how to stay safe from bears (a growing problem in the area), and more.

There was also a showing of 100 years in 100 slides, booths for community groups and sales of the West Vancouver Historical Society’s book. Finally, pipe music and a heritage quiz finished the day off.
