Paradise Valley Mall Brings Change to School Program
There’s still a good six weeks before children go back to school, which is probably a relief for them. But that doesn’t mean Back-to-School can wait any longer.
Paradise Valley Mall is preparing its annual School Cents promotion—you know the score, no doubt. Shoppers bring in their receipts to earn points for their school of choice, sign up for email newsletters, like Facebook pages; that sort of thing.
This year, the center is teaming up with youchange to expand the program further, and doing some good in the process. youchange is a community organization of electronics collection, e-waste tracking and re-Commerce, and its specialty will go to good use in School Cents.
Schools will earn extra points for every piece of unwanted or non-functioning consumer electronics shoppers bring in for recycling. Computers, old game consoles, cell phones, cameras and more will all add to the pile of points.
“We are especially excited about this year’s competition. Adding the consumer electronic collection element allows us to provide a new method of earning points in addition to promoting the proper disposal and recycling of electronic items – items which have a huge impact on our landfills and our environment,” said Munira Smith, senior marketing manager for Paradise Valley Mall.
A portion of the proceeds from the electronics donations will go to support The Foundation for Public Education, and the ends the contest with the most points will be given an award of several thousand dollars.
