Ocean Terminal Sends in the Clowns

Ocean Terminal is an important part of Edinburgh Fringe as one of its big venues, and that’s given it the opportunity to host one very cool part of the festival: the Big Top. For the first year, Fringe includes the Edinburgh International Circus Festival, and Ocean Terminal is at the center of the event.

International acclaimed artists are visiting the circus throughout artists, wowing families with aerial acrobatics, illusions and a lot more. A Bulgarian Wheel of Death has featured, alongside clown acts from around the world and an Argentinean Bolas Dance.

Each act has a good reason to put on the best possible show: the success of the 36 performances are all being measured with a clapometer. The most popular act will win the first Edinburgh International Circus Festival’s People’s Choice Award.

Ocean Terminal’s centre manager, Dennis Jones, joined an international panel of circus experts to cast his vote for the nine other awards that were given out last week.

When asked about the circus, Jones said, “the addition of a large scale Festival Show during August is fantastic, not just for the Shopping Centre but the surrounding area also. Having an element of the Festival buzz is great to experience and I look forward to being amazed by the circus spectacular located on our doorstep.”
