Oakridge Centre Takes Ladies Out to the Ball Game
A day out at the ball game is too often a boy’s club, and that’s not great for stadiums that aren’t home to big franchises. It’s hard to build an audience when only half the population is interested, after all. Oakridge Centre is working to bring more women to the sport, and this past weekend was its fourth annual Ladies Day at the Diamond.
Women who want to learn more about baseball had a great opportunity to do so while enjoying a beautiful, sunny day. The one-day camp offers a ‘Baseball 101′, with Vancouver Canadians players and coaches, and the front office staff at Nat Bailey Stadium. The women had a chance to learn training techniques, on-field practice and what goes into the day in a life of a minor league baseball player.
Those who made it out to the camp were given a t-shirt, a ticket for Saturday’s Canadians game and a few other goodies.
