Oakridge Celebrates in Style

0521oakridge.gifHow do you celebrate turning 50? If you’re Oakridge Centre, you launch a $50,000 fundraising program.

The Canadian shopping center used its 50th anniversary to make a big change in the lives of women in its community. In what has been an otherwise financially challenging year for Dress for Success Vancouver, Oakridge is making a big difference for the charity, supporting nearly a quarter of its operating budget for 2009 with fundraising events.

Says Deborah Twocock, Executive Director of Dress for Success Vancouver, “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Oakridge Centre – because in tough times, it’s these donations which make the most difference.” And the center isn’t abandoning its other causes – it will continue its support for nearly 200 other local non-profit organizations this year.

Of course, this was just one great part of a well-rounded anniversary celebration, that included local dancers and musicians, a historical fashion show, and look back at the history of the center and its six remaining original tenants. The shopping center also looked to the future, with the launch of a new style team and center blog.
