NRF’s Big Show Showcases Student Talent

This year’s Retail’s Big Show marked the third aspire2retail Intercollegiate Retail Challenge. University students majoring in a retail or related field compete and work together to face a major retail industry challenge. Teams are made up of one student each from six participating schools, with each member of the team playing a different role. Retail executives mentor the six students playing their role in the teams.

This year’s challenge involved examining the feasibility of expanding a fictional US retailer into China, with team members taking on Finance, Real Estate, Merchandise Planning, Visual Merchandising, Store and Internet Operations, and Recruitment and Training.

If the teams decided to expand into China, they had to cover several considerations: where to locate, what to stock and what sized footprint to establish, what changes to make in merchandising and marketing both in-store and online, and how to recruit and train staff.

The winning team came up with a great plan, and took home a great award and a valuable experience. To read all about the winners, take a look at the NRF’s Retail’s Big Blog.
