NewMark Merrill Launches Education Program at Community Celebration

314parkLast weekend, NewMark Merrill Companies had a lovely afternoon in the park to celebrate the completion of big changes to Park Plaza on Maine after its renovation and redevelopment.

The event drew in much of the local community, starting with the Sierra Vista High School Marching Band, and then a performance of the National Anthem by Creative Planet School of the Arts students.

When it was time for the ribbon to be cut, members of youth sports teams of all disciplines joined Anaheim Bolts players to mark the occasion. After that, the Bolts held a soccer clinic for the youngsters and the Bolt’s Dance team taught a few great moves as well.

The afternoon was filled with the kinds of activities any excellent ribbon cutting needs: food sampling boots from center eateries, free make-up and beauty tips from CVS, raffles and prize giveaways, and a lot more. Bank of America gave away Hawaiian Leis, Freemont Wellness College students gave free massages, and so many other retailers gave out treats, souvenirs and goodies. Human Foosball and basketball games featured, and a DJ kept the tunes going all afternoon.

Also present was a booth from Fremont College, where shoppers could learn about an interesting new program it’s offering in partnership with NewMark Merrill Companies. The company is working with Fremont College to identify courses that are relevant to it shoppers, tenants and upwardly-mobile employees. Interested individuals from NewMark Merrill’s 70+ centers will have the chance to sample these courses at no cost, in the same classrooms as college students.

“It’s a unique opportunity for our shoppers, tenants and center employees,” said Sandy Sigal, CEO of NewMark Merrill. “We take our obligation to the communities we serve seriously. The most significant difference we can make it to provide an exceptional place to shop and create memories, and with our partnership with Fremont, we can now add opportunities for personal enrichment as well. With a sampling of various educational opportunities at our sites we can provide our tenants additional ways to improve their business performance, and our shopper’s additional opportunities to improve their lives.”

“Fremont College students will benefit from the real-world experience of working professionals by being in the classrooms together. It’s a completely different experience when you’re working with real-time problems. In classroom discussions, students can propose solutions, test them, and see what happens in class next week,” commented Dr. Sabrina Kay, Chancellor of Fremont College.

“We look forward to having the opportunity to demonstrate to NewMark Merrill’s over 1,500 tenants, and thousands of customers the value additional education can make to their lives. Education changes everything. It is my hope that we can inspire ambitious employees with the focus, discipline, and desire to excel to better their lives through education, as well as adding relevance to our curriculum and improving our students’ ability to contribute to the American workforce.”
