MoA Shoppers Walk Off Their Black Friday Blues
Holiday traditions are grand. Be it Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas goose, crackers at the table or cookies and milk by the tree, it’s good to have something to mark a celebration.
Mall of America hopes to encourage families in its community to start a new tradition this Thanksgiving, though — it’s asking them to participate in the Walk to End Hunger.
The walk is organized by the Twin Cities Hunger Initiative. It’s a whole slew of fundraising efforts surrounding the center. During the event, organizers will hold a Phone-A-Thon to raise awareness and funds. There will also be a Food Drive to collect non-perishable food items for the Minnesota food bank.
But the main event takes place while many others will still be enjoying (or recovering from) the Black Friday festivities. Instead of consuming, participants will share — taking a family-friendly walk that brings together the community in support of a vital cause.
The Walk to End Hunger takes participants around the first floor of the Mall of America for six laps, with breaks for activities and entertainment along the route. It’s a short 5K, but it can make a huge difference.
Adults who register will pay $25, youngsters can walk for free, but every participant is encouraged to raise at least $100 for the cause.
