Metropolis at Metrotown Gets Polished

627polishNail art aficionados can do some pretty amazing work, the sort that can leave you wondering whether it’s salon work, stickers, or just serious talent. Metropolis at Metrotown’s Get Polished should help answer some of those questions for curious shoppers.

The center has brought in local nail bloggers for a series of Get Polished nail art workshops, where shoppers can learn how to pull off some of the trendiest nail-art looks with a bit of patience and a handful of office supplies. Last weekend the Find What You Love workshop taught shoppers to make stripey hearts with paper reinforcements. On July 6th and 7th, Geometric Chic teaches the art of taping. On the 13th and 14th, shoppers will learn how to pull off polka dots with paperclips.

The workshops are by donation, with proceeds going to Beauty Night Burnaby, a non-profit that gives life makeovers (makeovers, wellness advice and life skill development) to participants at shelters, health care facilities, drop-in centers and transition homes. With their donations, shoppers not only pick up new nail art skills – they also get three hot seasonal polishes, a topcoat and an emery board.

At the same time, Metropolis is running a Facebook contest for the hottest digital manicures. Shoppers can play with the Get Polished app to create a manicure complete with their choice of backdrops, skin color, polish and decor (stickers, gems and the like). Then they can vote for their favorite. Everyone who likes the center on Facebook gets a single entry, and the center is sharing codes for extra entries on social media, on their website and in-center. There are $2500 of prizes up for grabs, including manis for a year.
