Manchester Arndale Digs Gardening

815digUrban gardening is big—big enough that the city of Manchester just held a week-long urban gardening festival for its second year running. Dig the City turns Manchester into a garden city with fine food markets, plant swaps, brand-new gardens and lot more.

Manchester Arndale played a fun part in the festivities with Mini Dig, a series of free children’s gardening workshops. They served as a gentle and fun introduction to gardening for the younger set. Decorating a small pot, for instance, and planting a sunflower seed to take home for later—all within a garden setting in the center’s Halle Square.

Kids also had the chance to follow the trail game through the center, picking up a free stamp card from the workshop and visiting five participating children’s retailers to collect stamps. In exchange, they got exclusive Disney Planes prize packs.

“We are pleased to support Dig the City for the second year running with this fun, summer activity which is perfect for children during the school holidays,” said David Allinson, centre director. “Dig the City urban gardening festival celebrates Manchester in full bloom and it gives visitors to our great city the perfect opportunity to get a taste for the countryside, without even having to leave the confines of the streets.”
