intu Braehead Gets Into Electric

1017electricIntu Braehead Shopping Centre is taking the plunge to become the first Scottish center to offer a free rapid charging point for electric cars.

With the help of a grant from Transport Scotland, the center has installed not only four of the typical fast-charging points, which can charge an electric vehicle in three to four hours, but also a rapid charger that can bring a car to 80% of its charge in only 30 minutes.

For any shopper who just wants to pop in for a quick errand, pick up dinner, and go, this means a chance to have a free, effortless charge they hardly need to think about. Brilliant.

One of the first electric car drivers to use the new rapid charger at the center was 42-year-old Karen Bain. She drives an all-electric Renault Zoe, and was pleased with the results. “This is really handy for me as I can nip into the centre for half an hour, have a coffee and by the time I come out, my car is charged and ready to go.”
“And best of all it’s free to charge up my car – what more could you want.”

General Manager Gary Turnbull is also happy his center is doing its part to combat Co2 emissions.

“The availability of the rapid charging point, like the one at the mall, makes electric cars more appealing to drivers as they can re-charge their battery while they are doing their shopping or enjoying our leisure facilities,” he said. “We’re delighted to be the first shopping centre in Scotland to provide a free rapid electric car charging service to drivers.”
