Intercity Shopping Centre’s Science Week

Earlier this month, Intercity Shopping Centre hosted the launch of Research and Innovation Week for Lakehead University.

Science can be a hard sell, but it doesn’t have to be. The center and the university took care to create an approachable and interesting fair for shoppers to get involved with. Of particular popularity was a $50 Ancestral DNA test that could be taken on-site. But shoppers also had the chance to visit booths with information on local soil ecology for gardening, the newest biotechnology research, climate change discussion, food security, and plenty more.

Recruiters were also on hand to give admissions information to curious potential applicants.

Lakehead University also took the opportunity to announce two new startups. One has the goal of commercializing the Strength Assessment Inventory (SAI), an assessment test for children that helps motivate them to build their strengths. The other, Bitcold Technology Inc, has created an intelligent system that allows health-care professionals to share necessary information.
