Harness the Power of Facebook Fans

0924facebook.gifYour Facebook fans and Twitter followers are valuable. But are you making the most of them?

On Twitter, the culture of re-tweets ensures that any message that captures your followers’ attention will spread throughout their networks, expanding your reach and your audience. But Facebook marketing is a bit more insular. Metropolis at Metrotown solved that problem with a recent contest.

The ‘Strut Your Stuff” contest instructed shoppers (via the malls’ Facebook fan page and website) to do a little impromptu marketing. They were to shop at Metropolis at Metrotown, and film a video of themselves showing off their purchases and explaining why they should win. Then they had to post it on their Facebook profiles and get everyone they could to comment or “like” the posting. Four lucky entrants take home a $1000 gift card, and four of those that commented on the videos will be randomly chosen to win a $250 gift card.

So, not only did entrants need to do a little shopping (they were required to show off at least two items and keep receipts), but they spread the love to all their friends. More and more, people are saying they trust recommendations from friends most of all when making purchasing decisions, so this is a great way to harness the power of your fans.

What a fantastic concept and terrific marketing ploy to not only get people to buy but also influence their friends. Sure beats the old “minimum spend” concept to entice people to enter competitions. This is also great for all age groups, from kids to grandparents, WELL DONE!
